Teaching Plans
For my teaching plans, I am interested in creating an online lesson for module 4 which will take place November 2-22. I am thinking that 'cultural aspects in nursing' would be a good topic to study. Assignment possibilities that I would like to consider would be: questions for students to discuss on discussion board and a short written assignment. Maybe some textbook readings from one of our textbooks by Creasia and I will search for a journal article or two for the students to read and reflect upon. I would also like the students to post a reflective, personal blog entry about their experiences with different cultures in nursing

Hi Shara! Sounds like a wonderful plan! I really enjoyed learning about cultural issues as an undergraduate. One of our assignments was to interview someone from another culture and ask about health issues. I can still remember that interview. There were so many political and economic aspects intertwined with their health.
Thank you, Janice, for the idea. It would be beneficial for the studnets to conduct an interview and share it with the class.
I find cultures that are different then mine fascinating and helpful when delivering nursing care...one idea that I think is really neat is if you have students of different cultures share with the group.....I work at a facility that we had a cultural awareness day and the staff had a great time learning about each other and inturn learning about some of the clients we care for.
It might also be interesting to throw a culture in there that they haven't encountered. Maybe the deaf or blind population. Just an idea. Good luck!
